Daru Haldi/Indian Barberry (दारुहरिद्रा) : Daru Haldi trees grow in the Himalayan region as bushes. It is also found in areas of hills like Bihar, Parasnath and Nilgiris. Its tree is 5 to 16 feet high, prickly, bushy, whose stem has thickness of 8-9 inch thick. Addresses are prickly and 2 to 3 inches long. Flowers are found in clusters of 2-3 inch long stalls, white or yellow (according to different races).

Just like flowers, the fruits also seem to be associated with small, sour-sweet, red-coloured blueprint. The fruit is known as Jariskh. The roots are small, niggardly yellowish. Turmeric yellow, bitter, light-scented roots are sold only. Due to the yellowish colour in the root and twigs, it has been named Daru Haldi. It has nothing to do with the general turmeric. Its 6 species are found, but virtually identical in properties. The decoction made from Daru Haldi comes from the name of the seed.

Berberis(Daru Haldi) aristata is erect, evergreen shrub with height of 3.5mt. It is woody plant with yellow to brown bark from outside and with dark yellow bark inside. The bark is fully covered with three branched thorns, which are modified leaves in tufts of 5-8 and are simple with pinnate venation.

Upper surface of leaves are dark green and lower surface of leaves are light green. Leaves of this plant are toothed, simple, sessile, and leathery in texture and are arranged radically. Flowers are stalked, yellow, complete and hermaphrodite.

This plant is filled with yellow flowers. Yellow boiling remains in it even after its boiling. Name of alcoholic turmeric is important for Ayurveda experts because it is obtained from the juice, which is made of juice. The terrible alkaline (barberryine) found in it is very helpful.

The root bark of Berberis aristata contains berberine, quaternary ammonium salt of isoquinoline alkaloid. Indian Barberry has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and anti-diabetic activities.
