Badi Harad/Haritaki Herb (हरड़) : The tree of the Badi Harad is 60 to 80 feet high. It is found in the lower Himalayan region from Ravi shore to Bengal and Assam till about five thousand feet height. Its bark is dark brown and the size of the leaves is like Vasa leaves. In winter there are fruits that are store between January and April.

Rarely there are two types of haemorrhoids – major herbal and minor herb. There are hard kernels in bigger herbs whereas there are no kernels in the small herb. In fact, those fruits which are broken and dry before the birth of kernels are kept in the category of small herbs. According to Ayurveda, the use of small herbs is inauspicious because its effect on the intestines is benign. According to the botany, there may be three different distinctions of the herb. The small herb is called superficial fruit, whereas the bigger is called Badi Harad pulp is quite thick and astringent.

Badi Harad is a very beneficial drug. It destroys more than 100 diseases of the body. The decoction of Haritaki Herb is beneficial in skin allergy.

Consuming every day with the condiment, the intellect, strength and age increase. At the end of the meal, the intake of Badi Harad removes cough and bile. If taken with salt, cough is cured, if taken with jiggery, Pitta is cured, if taken with ghee, gas and all diseases are destroyed.

Haritaki Herb is known to protect against age-related diseases. This is because it helps fight oxidative stress.  it was observed that Harad boosts the concentration of many well known antioxidants, like gluthione, vitamin C, gallic acid, and ellagic acid. The fruit of the Badi Harad is an effective antioxidant. It is an excellent free radical scavenger.

The heart is also known by the names of the Haritaki. The tree of Harad is straight and stout; its leaves are light yellow or white, in which there are many types of substances found. Glycoside-like substance helps our body get rid of constipation. In the rainy season the Haritaki Herb/Badi Harad should be consumed with rock salt.
