Amethyst stones have been used since 25000 BC. The name originated from the Greek word, Amethystos, which means ‘not intoxicated.’ The Greeks were the first to discover the crystal’s exceptional properties that help the person not become intoxicated even when drinking alcoholic drinks. They made crystal mugs made out of this grounding stone to drink from. They believed wearing amethyst jewellery would also keep the person from falling after heavy drinking.
